The city of Thessaloniki, which has already hosted four Hollywood movies in the last year, has been transformed into a huge movie set. Streets, houses and neighborhoods, entire areas in some cases, were ‘transformed’ for a few hours for the needs of the films and then returned to their everyday life.
The Commercial Square, Aristotelous Square, the City Harbor, Kapani, the walls of the Upper Town was occasionally the focus of the filming. The first Hollywood movie “The Enforcer” starring the famous actor Antonio Banderas was shot last year, in the summer of 2021.
In November and December, “The Expendables 4” was shot, starring Jason Statham, Andy Garcia and Megan Fox, who could be seen strolling through beautiful Thessaloniki during breaks in filming.
For the spy film “The Bricklayer” about 3,000 extras were needed, which were covered by Thessalonians, starring Aaron Eckhart and Nina Dobrev.
‘Tin Soldier’ is the fourth Hollywood film to be shot in our region. An action film, with big Hollywood names such as Robert De Niro, Jamie Foxx, Scott Eastwood and many other stars, who will be in the city for a total of 50 days, until July 25.
The filming is a way to attract visitors not only from the surrounding areas but also from abroad. It seems that Thessaloniki is entering strongly into the film sector and a mass wave of tourism is expected to come mainly after the showing of the films in the cinema halls, where the beauties of the city will be highlighted from the areas where the filming took place.
Celebrities, such as Nina Dobrev, with 25 million followers, and not least Antonio Banderas and Robert DeNiro, have come to the city, and the population is waiting to see them up close in one of the scenes that have been filmed in well-known parts of the city; The municipality’s management had already on the day before informed that “traffic is prohibited due to the filming of the Hollywood film”.
Soon we also expect new film productions that you can get information about from the Central Macedonia region and why not participate in one of them as an extra or come and see the Hollywood stars up close.
