NEA FLOGITA IN CHALKIDIKI

by Hello From Greece

Nea Flogita in Chalkidiki, a lively fishing port with a long beach, which is the commercial center of the area and is only 52 km from Thessaloniki and 6 km from Nea Moudania, cools the visitor.

The coastal village, which belongs to the municipality of Nea Propontida, can be easily reached by own car but also by buses from KTEL Chalkidiki (company for shuttle buses) and private buses that run daily and return the same day so people can enjoy a sea bath, which allows who wish to enjoy the sea and return home in the afternoon.

The beach in Nea Flogita is – due to the proximity to the city – one of the Thessalonians’ favorite destinations as well as other visitors from nearby prefectures who come to this blue paradise with buses that every summer have this deep blue sea as their destination. This large sandy and organized beach is a natural continuation of the beach in Nea Plagia and has a length of about one kilometer with crystal clear water, which gradually deepens, which benefits swimming for children and the elderly. In some places there are water sports facilities where you can rent pedal boats, canoes, jet skis. The beach is easily accessible for the disabled and is constantly guarded by a lifeguard.

* Along the beach there are famous bars – hangouts mainly for young people who for years have used them as a meeting place to meet and dive.

* Famous restaurants, taverns, patisseries, shops with bougatsa and donuts, fast food restaurants and everything imaginable are also part of the coastline’s tourism offer and are open all day.

* Hotels and rooms for rent overlooking the sea are available for all tastes and all budgets. Those who still prefer the tranquility can find accommodation on the side streets or higher up in the village.

Nea Flogita’s history begins with the Asia Minor disaster, when hundreds of refugees from Flogita or Floita (modern name Suvermez) in Cappadocia in Central Asia, came here in 1923 and founded Nea Flogita.

A landmark in the village is Nea Flogita’s vicarage, which during the Second World War served as a hospital. Today, after first being restored, it functions as a museum.
