Kavala’s hidden and obvious beauties through the eyes of Theodoros Mouriadis, Mayor of Kavala

by Hello From Greece

Kavala’s mayor, Theodoros Mouriadis tells Hellofromgreece why a tourist should visit beautiful Kavala.

“Kavala has dozens of small and large golden beaches, even within the city, where tourists can enjoy the sun and the clear blue sea.

You can visit the peninsula with the old town, the fortress, Imaret, the old aqueduct, the vaults, and the shipyard where boats big and small have been built for centuries.

Inside the city, you can see protected buildings, such as the City Hall, the Club and others, such as the old tobacco warehouses.

East of the city, in Nea Karvali, there is the reconstructed Cappadocian village of Akondisma, where you can enjoy local food and taste the famous kourabiedes.

Museum lovers can visit the archaeological museums in the city and in ancient Philippi, the tobacco museum and the maritime museum.

In the ancient Philippi area, the visitor sees parts of the area’s history from the time of Philip, Alexander’s father, to the time of the Roman Empire, with the Egnatia road, which Saint Paul walked and when he arrived in Philippi, baptized Lydia, the first European Christian.

The municipality and dozens of other organizations present cultural events almost every day, while in the ancient theater of Philippi, in the summer, ancient drama performances by the most important drama groups are arranged, as well as concerts by major artists.

Finally, near the ancient Philippi, there is a mud therapy spa, for those who want to rejuvenate their body and cure various ailments”.
