Once again this year, Greece and the Hellenic National Tourism Organization (EOT) had a strong presence at the International Travel Fair in Copenhagen, which took place between 22 and 23 October 2022. The fair is organized every year by the prestigious Danish travel magazine VAGABOND and specializes in quality tourism.
In addition to Greece, ten other countries also participated this year through their respective government tourism organizations, such as Cyprus, the Philippines, Norway, Poland, the Czech Republic, Tunisia, the Seychelles, Thailand, Tanzania, Uganda, as well as 26 tourist agencies, three of which travel to Greece. In the booth at E.O.T. this year, representatives of Crete and a delegation from the municipality of Karpathos acted as hosts. On 21/10/22, a workshop was held with the participation of exhibitors and professionals in the field as well as journalists.
Thanks to the excellent collaboration with E.O.T. Scandinavia and as a pleasant surprise for our participation, the organizers on their own initiative created a special rest area for the visitors, near our stand with Greek colors and a fund wall. Promotional material was placed in this area, while the region of Crete offered local treats.
In addition, the October edition of VAGABOND magazine, which is distributed free of charge to all visitors to the Exhibition, featured Santorini as the cover and a free advertisement for E.O.T.
The Danish market
Denmark, with 5.8 million inhabitants, is an important market for Greece as it sees a strong upward increase in the Danes’ preference for holidays in Greece.
In 2016, 389,243 people came to Denmark. In 2019, that number increased by (+) 26.46%, i.e. 492,266 people or almost 8.44% of its total population.
Compared to the total number of tourists who came from the Nordic countries during the Covid 19 period, the arrivals from Denmark amounted to:
• 118,477 people or 47.8% in 2020,
• 250,804 people or 48.21% in 2021 and
• 219,833 people or 34.53% of the total number of arrivals from Scandinavia in 2022.
A large number of travelers (over 8,500 people), were over 60+ and many were pensioners who travel 2 and 3 times a year and have both time and money, while a large proportion of visitors were looking for new destinations inland, without too many people.
