Volax, the village of granite cliffs

by Hello From Greece

Completely different from the rest of the villages, mainly because of the morphology of the land but also because of the poetic disposition of the inhabitants -the visitor is dedicated various verses of great poets written on doors, walls, ovens and in other places-, is Volax, roughly in the middle of the island. The village takes its name from the large granite rocks of various shapes and sizes, often resembling faces, animals or objects / parts of the settlement, granite boulders scattered throughout.

The period in which it was built is not certain, but it is considered to be one of the oldest on the island. It is probably post-Byzantine while it is believed to have existed in the Middle Ages. According to findings that have been made, the wider area was already inhabited before 2,000 BC.

Here, at an altitude of 284 meters, live 53 permanent residents year-round, whose main occupation is basket weaving with wonderful constructions that you will surely be impressed by.

If you come to Tinos, it would be a big mistake not to visit the village.
