The Waterfront Of Thessaloniki

by Hello From Greece

The new beach in Thessaloniki, the so-called “Bypass” Avenue by the Thessalonians, is clearly its comparative advantage, even though the city has countless hidden treasures that you may encounter.

The 3.5 km long renovated coastal front is an attraction, not only for the city’s residents but also for every visitor. It is called “Bypass” because the road from the old beach and the White Tower to the concert hall and back again is a fantastic way to “regulate” your heartbeat.

The renovation project, which completely changed the look of the avenue, was completed in 2013, and although we sometimes miss the old paving, the old pavilions, the red benches that were hidden in the bushes and the pasatempo (pumpkin seeds) vendors, it is a fact that the new coastal front is a architectural ornament that in a simple way has been fully integrated into the city’s structure.

You walk among recreation areas, tree-lined parks and of course the twelve theme parks, all with different functionality and a unique beauty. After the White Tower and the Royal Theater you can see Alexander the Great’s statue and in the direction of Thessaloniki’s concert hall you gradually pass through the theme parks which each have a different theme: music, water, memory, roses, sound, afternoon sun, sculptures etc. – so interesting that you have no eyes for anything else; further another equally fascinating part of the new beach extends in front of one.

On occasion you can stop at one of the cafes and enjoy a drink while watching the Thermaic Gulf during the beautiful sunset, where the sea, in an explosion of colors, becomes one with the sky.

On the beach you can rent a bike and feel the gentle sea breeze on your face as darkness falls and the New Beach turns into a seductress that beguiles you with its beauty.

If you want to have fun and you are a large group, you can rent bikes for two or even four people. If you love photography, painting or the visual arts in general, you will surely enjoy one of the glass kiosks.

Dance and other events take place daily in the parks and on the sidewalk of the New Beach.

Music events, concerts, festivals and other events, such as the annual Book Fair, choose to use the New Beach for their functions.

Explore it. Become one with the people of Thessaloniki and the visitors of the New Beach. Have fun!!
