– Once the other circumstances returned to normal, the outlook looks very positive. There was a significant upward trend in the tourism industry that culminated in 2019, but then it ceased during the pandemic, just like all over the world.
Which time period attracts the most tourists?
– Thessaloniki is an ideal destination all year round, without seasonal tourism. It is currently mainly a destination for a city break, but there are also a significant proportion of visitors for business reasons.
Which tourists prefer to come?
– According to statistics from the Thessaloniki Hotel Owners’ Association for 2021, it is mainly Greeks, followed by Americans, Germans, Romanians, Cypriots and Israelis.
What are they interested in?

– The proportion is very small – as a proportion you cannot find Scandinavian tourists even among the first 20 nationalities who visit Thessaloniki, so here there is an opportunity for growth.
Now that there are direct flights to and from Sweden, do you expect a larger number of tourists?
– Yes, accessibility is one of the key factors when choosing a destination. We hope that the new flights in connection with the new airport will be able to attract more tourists.
