ABOUT TZOUMERKA

by Hello From Greece

The Tzoumerka, or Athaman Mountains, are a large mountain range in western Greece, forming the southern part of the wider Pindos mountain range that rises between the rivers Arachthos and Acheloos.

They are spread over the prefectures of Ioannina, Arta and Trikala and have been characterized as one of the most important bird areas in Greece and have also been declared a national park.

In Tzoumerka there are a number of villages, many of which are famous, but it is worth visiting them all because each one has different beauty, mountains and natural wealth. If you ask me, I really can’t pinpoint which one fascinated me the most, and today, when I think about my memories, I highly recommend getting to know them all without exception. After all, if you follow the serpentine road all the way up, with a few small detours you will pass most of them and you will admire the wild beauty, the beautiful bridges, the fountains, the picturesque houses, the alleys, the squares, while it is worth listening to their history, which goes back several hundred years.

Tzoumerka is definitely a magical place, with unique landscape, rivers, gorges, waterfalls, an ideal tourist destination for visitors who want to enjoy nature and alternative tourism, but also for those visitors who want to spend moments of relaxation and tranquility with modern amenities.

Once you decide to go there, there are several villages where you can find food and accommodation to spend the night. I can mention a few like: Pramanta, Sirrako, Kalarrites, Voulgareli, Melissourgoi, Agnanta, Kalendzi, Athamanio, Katarraktis and many others.
